I'm always looking for reasons to be hopeful about our culture, so that's how I've chosen to look at this: In a charity auction for Katrina relief, a chance to meet Dakota Fanning is currently going for $6000, while a chance to meet Susan Sarandon is going for $1100. Market forces have determined that an adorable 11-year-old of indeterminate political affiliation is almost six times more valuable than a loudmouthed liberal hag.
